Yaba College of Technology, the cradle of Higher Learning in Nigeria was established in 1 947 as an immediate successor to Yaba Higher College. It attained autonomous status in 1 969 by virtue of Decree 23 which granted it the mandate to provide full-time and part-time courses of instruction and training in Engineering, Technology, Applied science, Commerce and Management.
The College since inception has continued to maintain high standards and this has served as a platform for its growth and development. These standards are founded on the vision, mission and core value which have become rooted in its abiding tradition and culture.
About the Centre
I n April 2016, the management of the College in line with its newly formed partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), established a Flexible Skills Development Centre. The Centre caters for all aspects of Flexible Learning in the College. It also liaises with the academic departments to develop and offer Short Flexible Courses to learners with the aim of empowering learners to earn sustainable livelihood.
About the Courses
I n furtherance of its objectives, the Centre developed five (5) Short Flexible Courses which are targeted at the youths and other interested members of our immediate environment. The courses have been specially designed to impart vocational and entrepreneurial skills and values on participants/learners to enable them earn sustainable means of livelihood after completing the courses. .Aside the general objective, each of the short courses has its own specific learning objectives tailored to the needs of its target audience. Unlike the regular formal courses offered by the College, these courses have the following special characteristics:
- Short: The duration ranges from 48 -120hours and this can be spread between 1 - 6 months at the convenience of learners.
- Flexible: The mode of delivery of the course is not rigidly face-to face. Learners can study at their pace in their preferred location most of the time. Only the practical sessions involves elements of face-to-face learning.
- Supported: Learners are fully supported during and after the course through the deployment of different techniques like peer-to-peer interaction by course participants using our online forum, real-time discussion/ interaction with the facilitators anytime of the day etc.
- Market - Ready: All courses have a module on how to establish and run a lucrative business based on the skill acquired.
